Eintracht Frankfurt uses an ESG tool tailored to the sports and entertainment industry to systematically collect environmental, social and governance data and assess it annually using the underlying evaluation model. The resulting ESG score makes changes visible and helps identify areas for action and potential measures. At the same time, the club operates within complex areas of tension amid the high demands of professional football. Balancing these considerations requires carefully weighed decisions that safeguard sporting competitiveness while also taking environmental, social and governance responsibility into account.
ESG Score 2024/25
Following extensive data collection, Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG’s fourth ESG rating was compiled in 2025. The ESG score improved from 70 out of 100 points in the previous reporting period in 2023 to 77 out of 100 for the 2024/25 season, having stood at 59 out of 100 during the 2021 pilot phase. This increase is primarily linked to newly implemented measures across all three ESG dimensions that were taken into account in the rating.
Results in detail
ESG Score Methodology
The ESG framework developed for the sports and entertainment industry comprises more than 300 criteria across 25 areas of action. As part of the rating process, external provider SustainGoals assesses the information and supporting documentation submitted by Eintracht Frankfurt using its defined methodology. The catalogue of criteria takes account of industry-specific requirements, including selected DFL licensing criteria, and is guided by selected sustainability reporting frameworks such as the SBTi and CSRD.
SustainGoals’ digital ESG tool is used for data collection. The scoring methodology is outlined in the following section.
SustainGoals GmbH assesses the ESG performance of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG using the industry-specific “ESG Advanced Audit” process. For the assessment period from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG achieved an overall score of 77 out of 100 points:
- Environment: 71 points
- Social: 81 points
- Governance: 79 points
SustainGoals classifies the result as “Good” within its own ESG Performance Index. The rating is valid from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026.
Scope of assessment
The environmental dimension covers the ProfiCamp, Deutsche Bank Park and the maxworx Sportpark. The three sites are weighted at 30%, 65% and 5% respectively. Social and governance are assessed across Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG as a whole.
Methodology
The rating comprises 368 criteria and 548 assessed data points. These include binary criteria, such as the existence of structures and concepts, numerical key figures, and categorical assessments of measures and programmes.
The criteria are weighted differently according to their relevance. The overall ESG score is calculated as the average of the scores for environment, social and governance. Missing information or information that is not sufficiently substantiated may result in a lower score; unanswered data points are generally assigned zero points.
Review and significance
The underlying data is collected and provided by Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG and the organisational units involved. SustainGoals subjects all data points to plausibility, evidence and consistency checks.
