Taking responsibility together – Eintracht Frankfurt’s ESG strategy
Sustainability is a key concept in social and economic change. Global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality also affect professional sports and Eintracht Frankfurt.
As one of Germany's largest clubs, Eintracht has a special social responsibility and role model function. In order to anchor sustainability even more firmly in its self-image, a holistic sustainability strategy has been developed. Specifically, there is a need for action in the three dimensions of environment, social, and governance, or ESG for short.
ESG is considered an established sustainability approach for evaluating all business activities. Eintracht Frankfurt uses precisely this approach. To this end, an innovative and data-driven ESG tool and rating system has been developed that continuously identifies strengths and weaknesses, progress, and areas where action is needed.
What does ESG mean?
Environment
Climate change mitigation and environmental protection have many facets. In addition to small behavioural changes in everyday life, companies in particular can achieve great impact with targeted changes in procedures and processes.
For this reason, Eintracht Frankfurt takes a holistic approach to environmental protection and has made it its mission to reduce emissions and energy consumption and to use natural resources responsibly.
Social
Responsible behaviour is also reflected in the way we treat each other. The social area includes aspects such as anti-discrimination and inclusion, the education and support of children and young people, as well as gender equality and workplace standards.
Eintracht Frankfurt's actions are based on an unmistakable and unalterable understanding of values. We take responsibility – not only on the pitch, but also through our long-standing social commitment.
Governance
Governance deals with responsible corporate management. Key to this are the definition of own corporate standards, the application of internal and external control mechanisms as well as compliance with laws.
Eintracht Frankfurt are pursuing the goal of establishing a framework that will also enable sustainable positioning in the long term. This includes improving internal processes and structures, incorporating innovations and ensuring data security.
By developing a holistic sustainability strategy, we have laid the foundation for more sustainable growth at Eintracht Frankfurt. It reflects our commitment: we want to make a difference. We know this is not a foregone conclusion – especially with regard to environmental goals. That makes it all the more important that we now tackle it consistently
